DancEsteem in Action!

MoBu Dance Group is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The group was founded by Takami Mochizuki Craddock in 2002 and performed under the name Toumei for a few years and was later renamed MoBu Dance Group in 2005. MoBu, whose Japanese character means "true dance," is a contemporary dance style influenced by butoh's concepts of time, space and image as well as modern dance and other body training methods.

Butoh is an avant-garde dance movement first developed in Japan during the late 1950s that explores abandoning the ego and expresses taboo and/or existential themes. Butoh is often considered the "dance of darkness" but has varied tones and expressions.

Takami has studied many forms of dance for several decades. She began studying butoh in 1998 and her first solo performance was in 2000. MoBu (Toumei) have performed actively since 2002 and explore dance movement along with art installation, video, and music to create a multimedia experience. The result is sometimes as brooding as original butoh, but just as often light, humorous, and spiritual.
